The Boomerangs Of History

Helping America Reflect On Itself

September 27, 2001
By Ras Jahaziel

Long before becoming the world's sole super power, your actions have been affecting everyone around the globe. What kind of actions on your part would give rise to that type of cold anger and lust for revenge that makes another people ready to sacrifice their lives just to get yours?

Even as your present lust for revenge is not without cause, do you think that other people seek revenge without cause? Do the effects of righteous policies make people want to commit suicide in the pursuit of revenge?

Under normal circumstances, life loves to live. This is true of animals and insects as well as human beings. They all try to hold on to life...unless they feel that their life is no longer worth living.

Should such desperation on the part of other people not make you question the righteousness of your policies? Would it not be arrogant and self-righteous to believe that you are the only people who seek revenge because something horrible has been done to you? If you truly desire the safety of your country, should you not try to make sure that the seeds of bitterness are not being sown today in the fields of cause and effect?

A Thought For The Healing Of America

As a nation founded in the name of Christianity, you hold on to the belief that mankind in this day is paying for the sins of the first people Adam and Eve. Your churches never allow the people to forget that "in Adam all have sinned," even though they were not living in the time of Adam. What about the sins committed in the last five hundred years? What about the sins committed in the name of slavery, colonization, segregation, and Jim Crow? What about the sins of LYNCHing, torturing, brutalizing and working to death for centuries the Black people who you enslaved? Could these sins have been wiped away leaving no guilt today? How come people today could be paying for sins committed thousands of years ago and not for sins committed just a hundred years ago or even fifty years ago?

It has been said in the Bible that you swear on, "he that is without sin, cast the first stone." Can a nation with a history like America's throw stones without such stones becoming boomerangs?
